Gingivitis Treatment with DioxiCare® - The ACTIVE Chlorine Dioxide System - Supports a Dentist's Aggressive Gingivitis Treatment Program that Fights Periodontal Disease and Promotes Good Oral Health
Frontier Pharmaceutical's DioxiCare® System has been shown to help in the treatment of gingivitis which is found in 3 out of 4 adults over 35 years of age and provide an oral hygiene approach to gingivitis treatment. The direct cause of gingivitis almost always begins with plaque. This colorless, soft and sticky film is composed of bacteria that form constantly on the teeth and gums. Further, plaque forms on your teeth when starches and sugars in food interact with bacteria normally found in your mouth and DioxiRinse™ helps remove those bacteria.
What is Gingivitis?
Plaque that stays on your teeth longer than two or three days can harden under your gum-line into tartar. Tartar makes plaque more difficult to remove and acts as a reservoir for bacteria. Usually tartar cannot be removed by an individual's brushing and flossing; therefore, a professional dental cleaning is the required gingivitis treatment. The longer that plaque and tartar remain on your teeth, the more they irritate the "gingiva", the part of your gum around the base of your teeth. In time, your gums become swollen and bleed easily.
If the plaque is not removed by daily brushing and flossing, it produces toxins (poisons) that can irritate the gum tissue, causing gingivitis. At this early stage in gum disease, damage can be reversed, since the bone and connective tissue that hold the teeth in place are not yet affected. Left untreated, however, gingivitis can become periodontitis and cause permanent damage to your teeth and jaw.

Gingivitis Prevention
Traditional instructions include brushing your teeth regularly, preferably in the morning and before bed, and floss your teeth at least once a day. It is also recommended that you use a soft toothbrush with bristles that breach the gum line when you brush. Most people can prevent gingivitis with this oral health protocol; however, since we eat a lot of food that contains ingredients leading to a bacteria breeding ground in our mouth, it is further recommended that a mouthwash designed to eliminate bacteria be incorporated into daily oral hygiene.
Gingivitis Treatment
If you are someone who has been diagnosed with gingivitis, and you are seeking a solution to the problem, it is advised that you have your teeth professionally cleaned every six months to one year to prevent plaque from becoming calculus and to remove any calculus that may have already formed. This scaling will include removal of plaque at and just below the gum line. Once this has been done, you need to adopt a daily gingivitis treatment regimen of oral healthcare that includes a process that will continue killing the bacteria that normally collects on your teeth.
Your dentist or dental hygienist can instruct you on the most effective methods of brushing and flossing. Controlling medical conditions, such as diabetes, can make gingivitis easier to treat. Using Frontier Pharmaceutical's DioxiBrite™
Gingivitis Treatment and Chlorine Dioxide
Interestingly, chlorine dioxide is a gas, and not easily incorporated into a topical product. Frontier Pharmaceutical has developed and patented a method of generating the gas and then utilizing its properties on an as-needed basis. This system is called DioxiCare®. By combining two component parts at the time of use, chlorine dioxide is released into a solution or a gel at a controlled concentration. It is both penetrating and highly antiseptic, perhaps the fastest known disinfectant. The generation of chlorine dioxide is immediate, and the resulting compound is well suited for topical applications, such as our DioxiRinse™ mouthwash and DioxiBrite™ toothpaste.
